About the project
For this project, we were challenged to build a chair using only two sheets of 2m x 2m of cardboard in a team of 3.
We decided to focus on designing a chair for the Edward Murphy library in NCAD. We wanted our chair to be lightweight and easy to carry so people could use it while moving about the library. We also decided on making our chair multifunctional, it could be used as both a short-term reading space and a step to reach the top shelves.
Prototyping
After trying many different bases and inside structures, and falling through many chairs, we came up with a design that not only fit the needs we had set, but also could be made out of one of our 2m x 2m sheets. We decided on cutting out a handle to make carrying it easier.
Final Chair
We tested our final design in the library and once we were happy with it, cut the perfect one for final presentation. This was an incredibly rewarding challenge to take on and certainly helped me with thinking outside the box on designs.
